Can’t sign in to Lync (2013) the server is temporarily unavailable

After working for hours on the, “Can’t sign in to Lync (2013) the server is temporarily unavailable ” issue, the solution turned out to relatively easy. Before I get to the solution, I will go into some detail with the troubleshooting I did.

Can't sign in to Lync

Problem: When trying to sign into Lync 2013 our customer would get the following error: Can’t sign in to Lync  The server is temporarily unavailable. If the problem continues, please contact your support team. Only one user was affected all the other users’ Lync clients were fine.

Troubleshooting: Deleted sign in information and tried logging in again. Didn’t work.

Tried signing in with my Lync credentials, that to didn’t work.

Used the manual Lync server configuration settings, no success.

Reinstalled Microsoft Office 2013.

I went into Event Viewer and these are the two messages I received

MSOIDSVC.EXE cannot be found

I called Microsoft and opened a support ticket. Microsoft Support had me log into the administrator account on the computer to see if Lync would work, it didn’t. He had me try logging into the Lync user account on my personal computer and it logged in just fine. We ran the online repair option for Microsoft Office 2013, no success. Installed Lync 2010 on the computer and signed in everything worked great! In the meantime, my coworker reminded me that K9 Web Protection was installed on this computer. Microsoft support told me to uninstall K9 Web Protection. I uninstalled K9 Web Protection. I then signed into Lync 2013 without any issues.

Solution: I uninstalled K9 Web Protection and then logged into Lync 2013 without any issues and it worked just fine. K9 Web Protection was blocking Lync from accessing some background websites and services. I would recommend uninstalling or disabling any web filtering or web protection programs and then try logging in. In my case, the issue was then resolved. Let me know if it helps, I was ready to pull my hair out till I found the solution. Laughs.
