Disable Phone Pin Lock Exchange Policy on Exchange Server 2010

I upgraded one of our Microsoft Exchange 2010 servers to Exchange 2010 Service Pack 2. After the upgrade one of the users complained that they now had to create a pin or password on their phones’ lock screens. Although I think this is a good idea for security purposes, this company didn’t want this hassle. This is how you disable the Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox policy from requiring a device password or pin .

Step One: Open Exchange Management Console

Step Two: Expand Organization Configuration > Client Access

Step Three: Click Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Polices tab and open the default policy.

Step Four: Click on the Password tab and uncheck Require Password. Apply your settings.

These changes will automatically take affect across all of the devices.

Broken iPhone home button? Here is a work-around. . .

Here is a work-around, if you had the misfortune of your iPhone’s home button breaking or wearing out on you.

Step One: Go to Settings.

Step Two: Select General.

Step Three: Select Accessibility.

Step Four: Select Assistive Touch and turn it on.

This will enable a “home button” on your iPhone display. You will also be able to access Siri, device settings, and more.

How to configure an Office 365 Exchange email acount on an iOS device

For the past while, a lot of people have asked me to set up their Office 365 email accounts on their iPhones. I decided I would write a small post on setting up Office 365 email accounts on your iOS device. The screenshots I have included in my tutorial were taken with an iPhone that was running iOS 7.0.2. However, these settings will work for those of you who are running older versions of iOS. If you have an Android device click here for instructions.

Step One: Touch Settings

Step Two: Scroll down until you find Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select it.

Step Three: Click Add Account.

Step Four: Select Exchange

Step Five: Put in your email address and password. Click next when finished. It will verify your settings.

Step Six: Your iOS device will ask you what you want to sync. Select what you want to sync and click save. You have successfully added your email account. Mail will start arriving soon. If it doesn’t come up asking you what you want to sync, continue to the next step.

Step Seven: If your iOS device couldn’t find your account. It will come up to the following screen:

enter the following information. In the Server field enter outlook.office365.com and in the username field put your email address (ex. email@company.com) in. Keep the domain empty. Click next to verify the information. It should now find your email account.

Additional troubleshooting if your iOS device will not find your account.

1. Make sure your email address and password are entered correctly.

2. If your phone is connected to Wifi, disconnect it and try again.

3. If it still doesn’t find your settings, restart the phone and make sure wireless is turned off and then re-add the account.

4. If it still can’t find the information save the account and wait an hour an see if it starts synchronizing.
