Some viruses work in the background disabling your antivirus software and corrupting your files but other viruses, such as the fake Security Protection virus take a different approach and pose as a antivirus software designed to protect your computer, when in fact it is installing viruses.

The Security Protection virus is an exceptionally brilliant virus. Once this virus is installed it will do a “full PC scan for viruses” when in fact, it is infecting your computer. This virus will block all other programs from running, even the calculator (smiles).

Microsoft Security Essentials Installation Error Code: 0x80070780

One of our clients had viruses infect his XP computer, after removing the viruses from the computer, we then tried to install Microsoft Security Essentials. I would go through the setup wizard and when I went to install Microsoft Security Essentials I would get the following error:

Error Code: 0x80070780

An error has prevented the Security Essentials setup wizard from completing successfully. Please restart your computer and try again, Error Code: 0x80070780.” 

Here are the steps I used to correct this error and then I could install Microsoft Security Essentials.

Step One: Browse to “c:program files/Microsoft Security Client” on your hard drive. Microsoft Security Essentials is trying to install in the Microsoft Security Client folder but the malware has corrupted the folder.

Windows Could Not Search For Updates – Error Code 8024800A

Windows Updates are a good thing, but sometimes they just randomly quit working, such was the case with one of the computers I looked at today. When searching for Windows Updates I got this message: “An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer. Error found: Code 8024800A.”
