Internet Explorer 10 Security Update (KB2862772) Failed Installation

I recently worked on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop that was having issues installing the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 (KB2862772).

KB2862772 update

The laptop would install the update and then I would restart. However, during the reboot it would do its normal update process “Configuring Windows Updates”, it would get to about 35% and then say “Failure Configuring Windows Updates, Reverting Changes”.

I searched online for some help but no one had a good solution for this issue. After a bunch troubleshooting this is the solution I found.

Step One: On the laptop, I went to Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off. I unchecked the Internet Explorer 11 box and disabled the browser.

( On a side note) I don’t know why it said Internet Explorer 11, it should have said IE 10 since that was the version I was on. That could be one of the reasons the security update for Internet Explorer 10 didn’t want to install.

Step Two: I then went to Windows Update and installed the Security Update for Internet Continue reading

Error message “AMS360 client not installed” when using the browser to log in

Background: One of our customers was having display issues with Internet Explorer 10. I uninstalled the Internet Explorer 10 Windows Update and reverted back to using Internet Explorer 9. I made these changes and the display issue was fixed! A little while later I was informed that when trying to log into the web version of AMS360 the following box would pop up:

AMS360 Client Install Error

Troubleshooting: The AMS360 client was already installed but I decided I would reinstall the client. Didn’t help. Made sure the website was added to the Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer- it was. And as far as I knew all the .Net Framework was installed, since it had been Continue reading

Our customer was running Internet Explorer 10 and apparently the security settings didn’t allow Evernote Clipper to clip web pages. Continue reading

Toolbar missing in Vertafore AMS360 Program

I upgraded a customer from a Windows XP to a Windows 7 computer today. The customer had a complaint, that once logged into AMS360 their toolbar (the one circled in red)  would go missing.

Missing AMS toolbar

I did some troubleshooting and found out that the toolbar was not missing, it was just invisible. In other words, the toolbar was there if you moused over it but you could not see the icons. Once I stumbled upon that information, I linked the issue to Internet Explorer 10.

I went into Internet Explorer and clicked on Tools (right hand corner). Next clicked Internet Options > Advanced. I then checked the box Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering. Continue reading

Internet Explorer 10 crashes every time I print

After I fixed Internet Explorer 10 crashing on start up, (previous post) I ran into another issue. Every time I would try printing a web page out of Internet Explorer 10, my browser would freeze and then crash. I started looking online for a fix. I searched on forums and all over the internet but could not find a fix for this issue. Here is some of the troubleshooting I went through before I found the fix.

I tried running Internet Explorer 10 as administrator. I ran it without-addons. I ran Internet Explorer with Enable Protected Mode, selected and deselected. I tried everything I could think of.

I then decided to check for Windows Updates. In Windows Updates, there was an update for a DisplayLink Display Adapter (01E6). I installed the DisplayLink Adapter Driver Update. I then tried printing a webpage out of Internet Explorer and it worked fine. Every since I installed the DisplayLink Driver Update I was able to print out of Internet Explorer 10.

That seems like a weird fix for a IE 10 printing issue and I can’t explain why it worked. My theory is that since I selected, use software rendering instead of GPU rendering for accelerated graphics (look at previous post), the graphics driver would freeze or hang and then in turn I couldn’t print.

So if you are having issues printing out of Internet Explorer 10, one thing I would try is to update your graphics/display driver. If this fixes your issue like it did mine, let me know by posting in the comments.
